  • How does the process for recognition of qualifications from third countries work?
The procedure for recognition of third-country medical qualifications in Germany is a complex process designed to ensure that the applicant's medical training complies with the standards in Germany. Here is a summary of the key steps: Submitting the application: Doctors from third countries (non-EU) must first submit an application for recognition of their professional qualifications to the competent licensing authority in the federal state in which they wish to work. To do so, they must submit various documents such as diplomas, certificates, a certificate of nationality, proof of their professional activity and, if applicable, proof of further training. All documents must be translated and certified, and it is important to also submit proof of professional licensing in their home country. Verification of equivalence: First, it is checked whether the foreign degree is formally equivalent, often with the help of the ANABIN database. Then a detailed substantive review of the training content is carried out to determine whether there are any significant differences to the German training. Obtaining an expert opinion: If necessary, an expert opinion will be obtained to verify the equivalence of the medical training, which can be prepared by university professors or by the Expert Opinion Office for Health Professions at the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB). Adaptation measures: If significant differences are identified, these can be compensated for by adaptation measures such as professional experience or further training. If full compensation is not possible or the documents are incomplete, a knowledge test is usually ordered to check the applicant's professional skills. Specialist language test: Before the license or professional permit is granted, the applicant must pass a specialist language test at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to prove his or her language skills in the medical field. Granting of license: After successfully completing all examinations and fulfilling all requirements, the license to practice medicine in Germany is granted, which allows the doctor to practice his or her profession without restrictions in Germany. It is important to note that this process can vary depending on the individual case and state, so physicians should contact the appropriate licensing authority early on to clarify the specific requirements. • What needs to be taken into account when granting a professional licence to medical professionals from non-EU countries?
Would you like to work as a doctor in Germany? This requires an official professional license, known as an Approbation. This license can also be granted to people with medical training from abroad, provided that it is recognized in Germany. Overview: In Germany, the medical profession is strictly regulated. This means that full professional practice requires a license. Without this, you are not allowed to work independently in the medical profession. People with medical training from so-called third countries — countries outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland — can also obtain a German license to practice medicine. In order to obtain this, your foreign medical qualifications must be recognized. As part of the recognition process, your foreign qualifications are compared with German standards to determine equivalence. This equivalence is a crucial condition for admission. In addition to the equivalence of qualifications, further requirements must be met, such as sufficient knowledge of German and proven health suitability. Special provisions apply to medical qualifications from the EU, EEA or Switzerland. You can also apply for recognition from abroad. Do you need individual advice? Please fill out the form: https://www.brmi-akademie.de/kostenlose-qualifizierungsanfrage
  • What documents are required for the application process as a doctor from a third country in Germany?
Please contact the relevant authorities in your federal state for information on the exact requirements. We can only provide an initial overview here. If you would like to apply for a license to practice medicine in Germany, you will usually need to submit the following documents, which will be checked by the responsible authority: 1. Proof of identity and nationality: Valid passport or identity card, certified copy. 2. Birth certificate: A certified copy must be presented. If the name is different due to marriage, a marriage certificate is also required. 3. CV: A complete, personally signed CV that presents your education and professional career in tabular and chronological form, including all relevant periods and evidence. 4. Professional qualifications: Certified copies of diplomas, certificates or other educational documents. Detailed overview of completed study content, including subjects, number of hours and grades (Diploma Supplement or Transcript of Records). If applicable, further specific evidence such as curriculum or study book. 5. Professional experience: Employment and further training certificates in certified copies or in originals. Evidence of professional activities in your country of training and/or origin. 6. Right to practice the profession: Evidence that you are entitled to practice the profession in the country of training or country of origin, including a "certificate of good standing", if applicable. 7. No criminal record: Criminal records from all countries in which you have stayed for more than six months in the last five years. These must not be older than three months and must be presented as a certified copy. 8. Medical fitness: Medical certificate issued by a licensed medical practitioner confirming your physical and mental fitness. The certificate must not be older than three months and must be stamped by the practice or clinic, if applicable. 9. • How does the licensing procedure work for doctors from third countries?
Application procedure: To obtain a license to practice medicine in Germany, submit your application to the relevant authority. If you have not yet established any contacts in Hesse, you should contact the Central Service Center for Professional Recognition of the Federal Employment Agency (ZSBA). You can submit your application together with the required documents in person or send it to the authority by post. Verification of equivalence: The authority checks whether your foreign professional qualification is comparable to your German one. This includes checking whether your qualification entitles you to practice your profession independently in your country of training. Equivalence exists if there are no significant differences between your foreign and German professional qualifications. Results of the review: If your qualifications are recognized as equivalent and you meet all other requirements, you will be granted approval. If significant differences are identified, these could possibly be compensated by your professional experience or by other knowledge and skills acquired through lifelong learning. These must be documented by appropriate evidence or certificates from a competent authority in the country where the skills were acquired. If the differences cannot be compensated, the authority will inform you of the differences identified and why they cannot be compensated by your professional experience. The decision also contains information about the level of your education and the level required in Germany. In this case, it is not possible to practice a profession in Germany without further measures. Knowledge test: If your qualifications are not recognized as equivalent and the differences cannot be compensated for in any other way, you have the option of taking a knowledge test. This test is based on the German final examination for doctors and includes both theoretical and practical elements. After successfully passing the knowledge test and fulfilling all other requirements, you will be granted approval. Do you need individual advice? Please fill out the following form and we will get in touch with you: https://www.brmi-akademie.de/kostenlose-qualifizierungsanfrage
