World Diabetes Day - 14 November: raising awareness, promoting prevention 💙🌍

Weltdiabetestag am 14.November

On World Diabetes Day, we are committed to raising awareness of diabetes and emphasising the importance of prevention. Around 537 million people worldwide live with diabetes - a figure that could rise to 783 million according to forecasts if no effective countermeasures are taken. Type 2 diabetes in particular is often preventable and is strongly influenced by our lifestyle.

Why does diabetes occur? Type 2 diabetes is caused by a combination of genetic predisposition and external factors such as an unbalanced diet, lack of exercise and obesity. A diet high in sugar and fat puts a strain on the insulin balance and can promote insulin resistance in the long term. Chronic stress and lack of sleep also have a negative effect on blood sugar regulation and increase the risk of developing the disease.

Why is diabetes so dangerous? Diabetes, especially untreated or poorly controlled diabetes, can lead to serious complications, including heart disease, kidney damage, vision loss and nerve damage. In many cases, type 2 diabetes is preventable or treatable through lifestyle changes.

What measures can help? A healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce the risk of diabetes:

💧 Drink enough: good hydration supports metabolic functions and helps to keep blood sugar stable.

🥗 Eat a balanced, fresh diet: A diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables, wholemeal products and little processed sugar relieves the blood sugar balance.

🏃‍♂️ Regular exercise: Exercise increases insulin sensitivity and strengthens the cardiovascular system, which can prevent diabetes and its complications.

🩺 Regular health checks: Early diagnosis enables timely countermeasures and improves quality of life.

Prevention and education are our strongest tools against this chronic disease. On World Diabetes Day, let's educate, support and stand up together for a healthy life. 💙
